The plus in being a plus size female |
|
What is it about being plus sized that makes everyone think that we need to hear that it's ok to be a fuller figured female? What am I missing? You never see articles about how it's ok to be really skinny and malnourished looking...well I haven't! So this brings me to ask why we need society's permission to be bigger or as the world, especially the fashion world plus sized. On reflection I quite like the word plus because it suggests positiveness... you know ...as opposed to minus which suggests a negative. So now I will outline what I think some of the pluses are. It's a plus to be able to live a life that is not all about depriving yourself of life's little pleasures like a piece of cake, a piece of chocolate or any little treat just because it might add an inch or two to your waistline. It's a plus to see that the world is now talking about fuller figured women and how it's good to be a larger body (as long as you are in good health) and that thin isn't necessarily the ideal. It's a plus to see that fashion designers are finally giving us bigger girls, the recognition that we deserve because they see that there are more and more of us out there shopping for fashion, and I do mean fashion not just shapeless garments that hide our bodies. It's a plus that as bigger women we are more confident and self possessed in ourselves an individuals and not self conscious and apologetic about our size. It's a plus that as mothers we are able to watch our daughters (if they have inherited our genes) grow up in an environment that focuses on them as people and judges them on their achievements and deeds rather than how they look. |
