We Don't All Fit The Stereotype! |
|
There has been a long held belief that a woman who wear clothes over a size 14 automatically fall into a plus size category and her fashion needs suddenly become different to any female who wears clothes in a size 12 or less. Nothing could be further from the truth! You only have to look around any place where people are gathered to see that bigger girls don't see themselves any differently to a thin girl. She wears the same make up, has the latest hairstyle and wears the latest fashion. (Even though it's hard for her to find it in her size) So in spite of all this manufacturers still think that we want to cover up and hide our curves. This is a myth. I know that old habits die hard, but bigger girls have moved on and it's high time that fashion designers and manufacturers did too. We love all the latest looks and we wear them. The old myths just don't apply anymore. Plus size girls can be seen at night clubs wearing the same glitzy, sexy outfits that their thinner counterpart are wearing. In summer a plus size girl wants to enjoy the warmth of the sun on her skin just as much as anyone else. Strappy and sleeveless tops and short skirts and sundresses are what she wants to wear. Sure you hear some plus size women saying that they want to cover up their upper arms and that they prefer to wear dark colours because they create an illusion of a smaller body shape. But these plus sizes are the exception to the rule. The "now" plus size girl is not afraid to show off her curves and is proud of who she is and is happy in her own skin. It's been a long and slow journey but today it's all about who you are and how you live your life and not about how thin you are. It's the best time ever to be a plus size woman because as attitudes change so do all the old preconceived ideas about a woman's body size and shape. The emphasis now is on healthy living and eating well. Not all of us are genetically thin and society has come to accept that fact. That's not to say that plus size women don't wish they were a little smaller, but the never ending emphasis on having to be a stick figure to be accepted is long gone and that makes being a plus size woman easier and less stressful. |
